What are gems in Survivor.io?
Gems are a type of in-game currency that you can use to buy new equipment, purchase supply crates, and also use to purchase gold. The equipment that you can purchase using gems refreshes every 24 hours in the shop.
The number of gems that you have can be seen directly next to your gold in the main lobby. You can earn gems using a variety of different methods which we will explore below and also by purchasing them for real currency.
How to get gems in Survivor.io
Survivor.io makes obtaining gems relatively easy with several different methods you can obtain them.
After countless hours of playing the game, we have summarized some of our favorite tried and tested methods of collecting gems. We found that keeping consistent and combining a few of the different methods is the fastest way to build up a healthy balance of gems.
1. Daily challenges
Daily challenges are a great way to earn gems in Survivor.io. They are available every 24 hours and the number of gems varies depending on if you complete the stage or not. More chests are unlocked if you fully complete the stage. There are 3 bosses in the daily challenges, a chest is rewarded for each one that you can defeat.
They are quite costly at around 10 energy points. For this reason, we would only recommend doing them when you plan to take a break after. In this case, you can then generate your energy points and continue battling.
2. Main challenge levels
The main challenge levels in Survivor.io offer brilliant one-time gem rewards on completion. These levels are unlocked after completing the normal level in the main chapters of the game. They provide three variations of the normal level, each with different modifiers that make the monsters harder to beat.
After completion of the main challenges, you will receive a one-time reward. The gems on offer here are normally a high number which makes them a great option for quickly collecting them.
3. Mega challenges
Mega challenge levels are some of the toughest challenges in the game of Survivor.io. They remove your stats and rely on a player’s skill to beat the level. By completing these mega challenges you can unlock gems and rewards. 200 gems can be redeemed once after completing each mega-challenge level. The levels are unlocked as you progress through the main story.
We recommend these challenges for experienced players as they are much tougher than the standard challenges. They are still a great way to collect gems later on in the game.
4. Growth fund
The growth fund is one of the most gem-filled reward packages in the game. The growth fund has three different tiers, a free one, and two paid tiers. The most expensive tier provides the most rewards and gems (as you would expect).
The tiers on the growth fund are unlocked by completing achievements through playing the game. We did not specifically target any unique achievements, by playing the game you will still unlock a good amount of gems. The paid tiers will offer you more gems and can be purchased at any time.
5. Chapter chests
Chapter chests are chests that are awarded by playing through the main story of the game. They can be claimed based on how long you survive and also when you complete a chapter. The button for the chapter chests is located right next to the patrol button. A red symbol will indicate when chests are ready to be collected.
The chests can only be redeemed once on completion of the level or time. They are however a great boost and an easy way to collect extra gems.
6. The daily shop
One of the easiest ways to collect gems on Survivor.io is from the daily shop. There will be a small reward that refreshes every 24 hours that you can collect a number of times by watching a short advert. The amount of gems that you can collect per video is normally 30, you can do this 2-3 times a day.
Whilst this can seem a pain it’s free gems! By doing this on a consistent basis you will build up your gem collection in no time.
7. Achievements
Achievements are another great way to collect gems. These are progressive awards that are rewarded for things such as upgrading equipment, collecting gold, and defeating mobs of monsters. Achievements are another brilliant free-to-play way of collecting gems and ultimately leveling up your equipment.
A red symbol will be shown on the achievement button when you have completed one and can collect a reward. Most achievements will be naturally unlocked as you progress through the game, this makes them a nice and easy way to collect gems.
8. Special ops
Special op missions are normally fast missions with varying levels of difficulty where you can unlock gems. Not all special op missions will reward you with gems on completion but can offer you equipment and gold.
Taking part in special op missions will require the use of no energy, they are generally quick as well – most lasting a maximum of 3 minutes. The color in the title box of each special op will showcase its difficulty. These will rise as you complete more special op missions.
9. Daily and weekly chests
Gems can be earned by completing tasks featured in the daily and weekly chest challenges. These challenges are mostly simple and can be completed by simply playing the game. You will earn stars after completing an objective that will unlock a chest. The higher the star value of the chest the more valuable the contents.
The daily chests refresh every 24 hours and the weeklies every 7 days. Again, this is an excellent method of collecting gems as most of the objectives are obtained in normal play. Some of the typical objectives include defeating monsters, merging equipment, and taking part in daily challenges.
10. Limited timed events
Limited-timed events can be a great way to collect gems and boost your balance. Like most challenges in Survivor.io, they consist of a number of challenges that can be easily completed in return for a reward.
The example above is the Valentine’s day event where you could exchange a ticket for a turn on the lottery board. This board unlocked prizes, some good gems, coins, and equipment could be earned by completing the board. As you can see in the image above, the top reward for completing a line was 2000 gems!
11. Leveling up
Gems can be rewarded by leveling up in the game. These are one-time rewards that are rewarded when you level up. The reward generally consists of 100 gems and 5 energy points.
This is another great way to earn free gems as you do it by playing through the game!
12. Daily login rewards
We love a free reward, and this one here requires probably the least amount of effort on the list. By simply logging into the game you can earn free gems. These rewards refresh on a 24-hour period and you can claim another chest at the top of the screen when you reach certain milestones.
13. Enders echo
The Enders Echo is another place where you can earn gems by taking part in challenges. The rewards come after battling the boss a number of different times. The bosses in this challenge are hard and you are ranked based on how much damage you do to the boss. Chests that contain gems are rewarded after battling the boss 3, 5, and 7 times.
You also are ranked against other players in this mode. At the end of a season or league, you can collect prizes based on where you finish on the table. If you finish in a good position you can be rewarded with a good amount of gems, equipment, keys, or loot.

14. From the shop
One of the most obvious but costly methods is to purchase gems from the shop using real currency. Whilst this can be quite costly, players can buy gems to assist in leveling up and obtaining that must-have equipment.
Gems come in a number of different packages, more gems are given as free based on the value of the pack.
15. Promo codes
Developers will sometimes drop promo codes from time to time where you can collect one-time rewards such as gems or coins. These are typically available from the developer’s social channels. Simply give them a like or a follow to be kept in the loop when they drop. Most of the codes that have been given out are valid for around a month.
Joining the Survivor.io discord will also reward you with some gems. By entering your player ID you can get a monthly reward of 200 gems.

16. Monthly card
The monthly cards in Survivor.io cost money to purchase, they reward you with bonuses such as extra patrol earnings (gold and XP) and also daily gem rewards. They are one of the cheaper options to buy gems and you are rewarded a number of gems on a daily basis.
