To check your energy essence balance click on the “Survivors/Outfit” button located on the main equipment screen. Energy essence is displayed on the top bar between your name and your gem balance. You can also check this in your item bag which is located on the right side of most screens in the menus.
Each time you level up your character the amount of energy essence required is increased. We found that through playing the game we earned enough energy essence to continually level up our characters, the currency that would hold us back from upgrading was gold.
How to Use Energy Essence in Survivor.io
Energy essence is used in Survivor.io to upgrade your characters, to use it you will need at least one character in-game. This is not an issue as you will start with the default character which can be upgraded. Leveling up your characters will improve their base stats and unlock unique boosts and skills at certain levels. If you have multiple characters navigate to the character selection screen to select which survivor you want to enhance.
A green arrow located on the image of the character will display if you have enough energy essence and gold to upgrade that hero. To level up your character press the “Enhance” button that is located in the bottom right-hand corner.
This will take you to the next screen which shows the requirements to level up your character. The amount of energy essence and gold required is located at the bottom of the screen just above the “Level Up” button. Pressing the button will result in you spending your energy essence and gold to level up your survivors.
Best ways to earn energy essence in Survivor.io
Like most in-game currencies in Survivor.io, there are a number of different methods you can use to quickly earn energy essence. We have tested all methods below and found these to be the most effective ways to give you a healthy amount of energy essence to upgrade your characters.
1. Patrol earnings
Patrol earnings are one of our favorite ways to collect loot and equipment in Survivor.io – mainly because they require little effort and can be earned whilst AFK. Energy essence can be collected when any patrol takes place, the higher chapter you are in-game will result in more energy essence being generated from patrol earnings.
2. Special ops
Another great way to earn energy essence is from the special ops game mode in Survivor.io. Energy essence can be part of your reward for completing specific challenges in special ops. These challenges can be completed up to 10 times per day and will refresh every 24 hours which makes it a great way to boost your energy essence balance.
3. Season pass
The season pass in Survivor.io is another method of how you can earn energy essence in-game. The free season pass will reward you with a smaller amount of energy essence than the paid one, but it is still a good method for both free-to-play players and those who have purchased the season pass.
Using a combination of these methods is straightforward as you naturally will progress through the season pass and collect patrol earnings as you play the game.
